What does it mean to be a woman?
The older I get, the more I find myself asking that very question - call it one of those nagging things you pay more attention to as you enter the 30s club, I don't know..
Does it mean married with kids? Because it seems that's the first thing people tend to ask when they get into conversation with you. Are you married? Do you have kids? As if those two checked off makes you any more or less of a complete woman.
But does it?
By society's standards, it does. Unfortunately, you are somehow not seen as whole if you don't have a family to share your life with. Someone to call your "husband" or someone to call you "wife/mom". Don't get me wrong, I think it's wonderful if you do have those things checked off your 'Life List', but if in the event you don't, you surely shouldn't feel any less of a woman because of it.
The fact is, maybe that special someone hasn't yet come along (in this big, wide world you'd be surprised how many frogs you have to kiss before you find anything remotely resembling a prince) and maybe you're not the type to settle for the first man that looks your way - because believe it or not - they should be checking all your boxes too! Sadly though, before society teaches women to never lower their standards or aim for a man that makes you feel every bit like the special woman you are, they teach you that you must simply "have a man", doesn't matter what that man brings to the table.
But that's where I come in. I'm here to tell you that's complete bullshit! If you have to live the rest if your life with someone sparing your space and energy, then that person should absolutely be checking majority, if not ALL of your boxes. Never let society determine who or what your are. If you're a woman who enjoys your own company, great. If you're a woman who is career driven and simply don't have the time to commit to anything but, then that's fine too.
Ultimately, this post is a gentle reminder that you are and will always be 100% a complete woman, with or without someone along for the ride - so enjoy the journey.
