Days Like This

The boat is moored at the dock and the waves gently crashes against its curves, hugging its base like an old worn glove. Our bags are packed and the open sea calls out to us.. Come. We board the small confined space and start the engine up. As we come away from the wooden structure and slip into the current, the shoreline quickly disappears behind us. The vast ocean lays ahead, welcoming us like an old familiar friend as we turn up the radio and cruise along the path well-travelled..

I close my eyes as the salty spray whips its cooling nectar across my warm skin.. I soak in the feeling and tune out the music, the sun and everything else around me as I get lost in the steady rocking of the boat and waves.. Transporting me beyond the chaos of the land, curfews and whispers of lockdowns.. Bringing me into the rapture of the moment – it’s only here. It’s only now.

The seconds slip away into minutes. The anchor is drawn and plunges forward into the depths before it, sinking deep within the crystal clear pool. We take the dive into water so cold it awakens our senses.. The tingling sensation spreading through our veins like molten liquid. We float along with the tide, the sun soaking the salt into our pores as we go.. It’s beautiful here.

As I look around I realize it’s only the captain, the vessel and me. The present is much better than our reality and I want to stay here for a while longer..

Let’s get lost.

As if those two checked off makes you any more or less of a complete woman. But does it? By society's standards, it does. Unfortunately, you are somehow not seen as whole if you don't have a family to share your life with. Someone to call your "husband" or someone to call you "wife/mom". Don't get me wrong, I think it's wonderful if you do have those things checked off your 'Life List', but if in the event you don't, you surely shouldn't feel any less of a woman because of it. The fact is, maybe that special someone hasn't yet come along (in this big, wi...
